Deadline November 1, 2022

The Tomita Young Artist Program aims to create a safe space in the studio for growth and discovery of the emerging opera artist. We believe that this is an important step in career development. Artists are encouraged to develop their individual voice in the rehearsal room and in collaboration with their colleagues.

Program Dates
July 14, 2023 – August 13, 2023

Please submit three arias or art songs of a contrasting nature. At least one selection should be in English and at least one selection should be in a language other than English. Of the three selections, at least two must be recorded with both video and audio. Audition selections may be submitted with live or pre-recorded accompaniment. If using pre-recorded accompaniment, you may record with headphones and then edit the voice and piano tracks together. Please do not submit any recordings without either piano or orchestra accompaniment. You may submit videos from performances, recitals, or concerts, as long as you can be seen clearly. Videos should show as much of your body as possible so we can clearly see your acting choices.

Ideal applicants have completed at least undergraduate or graduate education and may have some professional experience. We especially encourage applications from individuals who may contribute to further diversification of culture and ideas at Finger Lakes Opera.

Young Artists must be United States citizens or have the right to work in the United States. If applicants secure a contract, non-U.S. citizens must acquire right-to-work documentation. This process is completed only after successfully securing a contract with Finger Lakes Opera and will be done at the artist’s own expense.
