prehistoric LAB residencies is a self-directed residency program in Denpasar, Bali, designed for uninterrupted work. For its first season (2025/2026), we offer simple workspace and accommodation for up to eight practitioners per month, providing time and space to focus on projects, research, or personal practice without pressure to produce or perform. Emerging from the research platform prehistoricsoul.net, the residency emphasizes process, reflection, and connection with Balinese culture and local artists.

We welcome practitioners across disciplines: visual artists, performance makers, musicians, writers, researchers, anthropologists, and those working beyond traditional categories. Residents can work independently or exchange ideas organically. While there are no set outcomes expected, those wishing to develop a project may apply for a modest production budget to support its realization.

The residency is hosted in a large open-plan house, with a 120m² upstairs studio, shared kitchen, living space, and garden terrace with projection area suitable for screenings or performances. Accommodation options include a Shared Studio for groups (4–6 people), a Private Room (Yellow Room), or a self-standing Private Pavilion with terrace and basic kitchen facilities. Fees cover accommodation, Wi-Fi, and shared spaces, with food and personal expenses separate.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Residents are encouraged to apply at least three weeks in advance, and six weeks in advance for group bookings.
