Sing Out Strong is a multi-year community-based project in which we reach out to ordinary people in our community and commission them to write texts on activist themes that resonate with them personally. This season, we explore revolutionary, indigenous voices, in anticipation of White Snake Projects’ upcoming production Requiem for America, explores America’s founding in relation to her Indigenous citizens. COMMISION INFO:
We will select 5 composers to work with writers and the White Snake Projects team to create original songs based on community texts.
Instrumentation—Piano and soprano
Performances—The songs will be performed across Greater Boston beginning in March 2026.
Compensation—Composers selected will be paid $150. All songs will be performed live in Boston in spring 2026; composers will receive access to a live recording.
ELIGIBILITY:
LGBTQIA+ identified persons, Black, Indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC), and individuals from other communities historically underrepresented in classical music are strongly encouraged to apply.
There are no age restrictions.
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION:
Please submit the following materials:
2 Score Samples — at least one work should demonstrate the composer’s ability to write for voice
Audio links for score samples — can be a link to Google Drive, Soundcloud, YouTube, Vimeo, etc. Please keep samples from 2 – 5 minutes each.
